Arsenal are in huge need of a much-needed win over Everton at the weekend following their awful 2-1 defeat at the hands of Watford.
The Gunners currently sit in sixth place in the league with 13 points, and they are already nine points behind Manchester City at the top. Following a good run of form where they were unbeaten following a 4-0 loss to Liverpool on August 27th, they somehow conspired to waste all of their gathered momentum in classic Arsenal style.
They now know that a win over lowly Everton is vital. The Toffees currently sit in 16th place in the league with eight points, which is a very underwhelming total considering the money they spent investing on the side in the summer.
While Everton are undoubtedly a very good team, they have been playing very poorly recently, and if Arsenal want to challenge at the top of the table then they simply must beat the teams in the bottom half. Everton are currently one of those teams then, and beating Ronald Koeman’s side would relieve some of the pressure on the London side.
However, they have been dealt a blow in the build-up to their crunch match with the Toffees as defender Calum Chambers has had his return date pushed back even further. Chambers missed the first six weeks of the season before returning for Arsenal’s Carabao Cup match with Doncaster, but the defender only lasted 45 minutes. Wenger had hoped his injury would heal in time to face Watford, but, as reported by Football London, he remains on the sidelines.
While Chambers may not be viewed as Arsenal’s best defender, his absence has been keenly felt by the London side, who are once again suffering an injury crisis.
