Premier League club Arsenal are believed to be considering adding a couple of players during the January transfer window in order to improve their chances of getting back into the Premier League title race.
According to various media reports, Arsene Wenger is looking for defensive and midfield reinforcements with several names already being thrown into the mix.
Arsenal are believed to be keeping close tabs on Benfica forward Goncalo Cuedes and British media are reporting that the Gunners even sent one of their top scouts to watch the 20-year-old talent in action against Rio Ave on Wednesday.
Cuedes is being eyed as the potential replacement for Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who only has 18 months left on his contract and might be in line for a move away from the Emirates.
Arsenal are also looking to bolster their backline and the Daily Mirror suggests Arsene Wenger is chasing Valencia left-back Jose Gaya, the 21-year-old defender who has been recently drawing comparisons with former Barcelona star Dani Alves.
Gaya joined Valencia back in 2006 and went through the club’s academy before breaking into the first-team in 2014.
The defender continues to hold a regular place in the Valencia team, who are widely struggling this season in La Liga.
A promising left-back could be on the move for a more tempting challenge once the transfer window reopens in January and Arsenal regard him as a perfect long-term replacement for the ageing 30-year-old Nacho Monreal and England defender Kieran Gibbs.
Gaya started 12 of the 16 La Liga matches for Los Che in the 2016-17 season thus far.
