According to a number of reports in England, Arsenal have expressed interest in signing the in-form Watford midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure.
The 25-year-old Frenchman has enjoyed quite a run at the Hornets which saw him top the club’s scoring charts with seven goals in the Premier League. He also recorded two assists for Javi Garcia’s charges.
Doucoure’s flying form has put plenty of top sides on alert with Arsenal and Tottenham believed to be sitting in a front row for his signature. Mauricio Pochettino has kept a close eye on the midfielder over past couple of weeks and the Argentine tactician was reportedly at Watford’s 4-1 win over Chelsea last week to watch Doucoure in action.
Watford are keen to tie their midfield star to a new contract but it is believed that talks over a new deal have stalled as Doucoure’s stock continues to rise. Hornets are reportedly prepared to present Doucoure with a £60,000-a-week offer in order to persuade him to put pen to paper on a new deal with Hornets but will not budge in front of a big-money offer for the Frenchman.
Arsenal are said to be willing to challenge their north London rivals in a battle for the 25-year-old midfielder who could be allowed to leave for £25 million.
Tottenham have wealth of talent in their midfield line but are believed to be keen to add some fresh blood whereas Arsene Wenger has been in constant search for upgrades to his vulnerable line and Doucoure’s potential arrival could spell trouble for out-of-favour Mohamed Elneny and inconsistent Granit Xhaka, both of whom have struggled to win over Arsenal fans this season.
