Real Sociedad have bought out Carlos Vela to erase the buy-back clause attached to his contract, which means he will remain with the Spanish La Liga on a four-year deal.
“This is my home, I am very happy in San Sebastian, there is no place like this, and I told the president that when he asked me about my intentions,” he said. “It would not be easy, but fortunately it has been resolved well and all parties are happy.”
The Mexican international has been in superb form abroad since his move from Arsenal. It had led the club to consider exercise his £3.5M buy-back clause, but now it appears the Gunners don’t want Vela back and Sociedad now have the forward for another four years.
Unfortunately for the Arsenal supporters, it’s the second talented player they have turned down re-signing in the space of just over a week, following the news of former Arsenal & Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas signing for Chelsea.
Sociedad buying out the entirety of Vela isn’t all bad news for the Londoners, however. Arsenal stand to make around £9M for the deal, so that can be put towards summer recruits.
