Arsenal are favourites with the bookmakers to sign Belgium and Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to online bookmakers. With manager Arsene Wenger desperate for a prolific striker, and the side having begun pre-season, time is fast running out for the Londoners to bring in a goalscorer who can gel with the players with enough time to be fully fit for the coming campaign.
Lukaku has long been on the radar of Arsenal, with Wenger having shown a liking to the pace and power of the striker when Arsenal have come up against Everton. The Belgium international memorably scored against the Gunners in a previous Premier League meeting, and Lukaku’s strength proved to be a problem all through the game.
He’s keen to leave Everton this summer, having publicly admitted a desire to play for a side in the Champions League for 2016/17, while being keen to remain in England too. Chelsea and Manchester United are the two other sides having been linked with Lukaku’s signature ahead of the new season, but Arsenal are believed the lead the chase.
With Everton keen to reclaim the money back from Lukaku, the 23-year-old would likely set Arsenal back around £40M. They would be getting a talented player on their hands, however, with the centre-forward netting 18 goals in 37 league games last season, while bagging two goals in the 2016 European Championships. Arsenal are 23/10 to sign Lukaku this summer.
Could he shine at the Emirates?
