The protracted Alexis Sanchez transfer saga has rumbled on for so long that it is difficult to remember a time when his future was not being discussed.
It has been reported in the last few days that Manchester United now lead the race for his signature, with Manchester City supposedly unwilling to pay the amount that Arsenal have asked for.
United are reportedly happy to do so, while a proposed deal seeing money and Henrikh Mkhitaryan going to Arsenal in exchange for Sanchez has been the talk of the back pages.
However, it has also been reported that Arsene Wenger may want to take Anthony Martial as part of a part-exchange instead, with Mkhitaryan struggling massively, making some believe that he would not be able to fill the void Sanchez would leave.
While this may all just be talk, if Arsenal were to get Martial, then it would constitute a very good piece of business. The French-forward has struggled to feature regularly for United this season as he has shared duties out wide with Marcus Rashford.
Perhaps a move to the Emirates Stadium would see the attacker return to the prominence he has shown at points throughout the season.
Arsenal’s attacking-struggles were highlighted as they could only score through Hector Bellerin at the weekend. They were eventually beaten by two second-half goals, and what was most disappointing was the fact they barely threatened to score after they fell behind 2-1.
Sanchez’s omission from the squad saw a lack of incisive attacking, and perhaps a move for Martial will revive their stunted attack.
Of course, this may all just be talk regarding Martial, but if Arsenal can snare the youngster, then they may be able to revive their ailing season.
